Hurricane Lorenzo has escalated into a Category 5 storm, the National Hurricane Center said on Saturday night.
The storm is currently traveling across Central Atlantic and is expected to hit the Azores, the Portuguese island chain, in a few days.
Winds of over 155mph (250kph) have been recorded, but the hurricane is expected to fluctuate in intensity with its strength set to drop on Sunday night.
The National Hurricane Center predicts rains of over 3 inches to pound the western side of the Azores and rains of between 1 to 2 inches across the central sections of the archipelago.
Remnants of the storm may spill over the UK
