The US Navy seized an assortment of weapons believed to be of Iranian “design and manufacture” from a dhow in the Arabian Sea on Sunday.

In a statement, the US Navy said the weapons included 150 anti-tank guided missiles and three Iranian surface-to-air missiles. The military added that the weapons seized on Sunday were similar to those seized earlier in November 2019.

Iran is prohibited from supplying, selling or transferring weapons outside the country unless under the approval of the UN Security Council.

A separate United Nations resolution also bans the supply of weapons to the Houthi rebels who have built their arsenal mainly using local manufacturing and parts smuggled in from Iran.

The conflict in Yemen is believed to be a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
