Two Australian politicians have been denied entry into China after refusing to withdraw their criticisms against the country.

James Paterson and Andrew Hastie were scheduled to visit China on a study tour. China reportedly rejected the politicians’ visa applications.

The Chinese embassy said the two would visit the country after genuinely retracting their criticisms. Mr. Hastie and Mr. Paterson have not commented on the rejection of the applications.

The politicians have publicly criticized the Chinese meddling in Australian politics. They claimed that there is an active plot by the Chinese government to influence Australian politics through donations. They also cited singled out the country’s poor human rights record.
