Several Houthi fighters were killed and wounded in clashes in the al-Bayda governorate of Yemen, the country’s defense ministry said in a statement.
The clashes erupted despite a recent statement by the US envoy, stating that significant progress towards a ceasefire had been made.
The Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels had received draft proposals on a nationwide ceasefire, humanitarian and economic measures, and the urgent resumption of the political process.
The country has been mired in conflict since the Houthi group ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s government from the capital, Sanaa, in 2014.
A Saudi-led military intervened in a bid to contain the conflict and restore the government.
