Australian carrier Qantas has concluded a non-stop test flight from New York to Sidney.

The Boeing 787-9 took 19 hours and 16 minutes to complete the 10,066-mile (16,200 km) flight.

The company was studying how the flight could affect passengers, pilots and crew. On-board tests were conducted on some of the 49 people on the plane. Pilot brain waves, alertness and melatonin levels were monitored. The impact of crossing multiple time zones on passengers was also analyzed.

The company is planning to conduct another non-stop test flight from London to Sydney in November. The carrier will then decide by the end of 2019 on whether to operate the routes in 2022 or 2023.

The testing comes a year after the company launched a 17-hour non-stop service from Perth to London.

Competition in the long-haul market has been growing in the recent past.

Currently, the 19-hour long journey from Singapore to New York, operated by Singapore Airlines, is the longest regular commercial flight.

Qatar Airways also operates a 17-hour flight between Auckland and Doha.

Wrongful death and personal injury attorney Arin Khodaverdian, President and Managing Partner of Alpine Law Group, urges accidents victims and their families to immediately seek legal assistance. “Those who are affected by tragedy have rights, but they must act quickly in order to preserve those rights to the full extent of the law. Often, swift action by an experienced attorney is imperative in order to preserve evidence, interview witnesses and immediately begin pursuing any and all responsible parties.”

While Mr. Khodaverdian does not represent any of the parties involved in this incident, he has recovered over $100 million for thousands of injury victims and their families. “In one case, we were able to recover a 7-figure settlement within 11 business days of being hired by the family of a victim killed by a negligent driver. While this result is atypical and does not predict future outcomes, justice in this case help bring about closure and a swift sense of justice for the family.”
