High-Speed Train Derails in France Injuring 22 People

At least twenty-two people were injured after a train derailed in eastern France on Thursday.

French authorities said the high-speed TGV train was traveling to Paris when it derailed near Ingenheim, about 19 miles northwest of Strasbourg.

The train driver was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to the hospital in critical condition.

Twenty-one other people including the crew chief were also injured in the crash. Most of the injuries were described as minor.

National rail operator SNCF said the train was carrying 348 passengers at the time of the accident. The passengers were transported by bus to a crisis medical center set up at a community hall in Ingenheim.

More than 100 rescue workers and dozens of fire engines were at the scene of the accident.
