Five Coronavirus Patients Killed in Hospital Fire in Russia

Overloaded Ventilators at Hospital’s ICU Believed to be the Cause of the Fire

At least five coronavirus patients were killed in a hospital fire in Russia on Tuesday, the country’s emergency ministry said.

Local media reported that fire broke out in the intensive care unit of the Saint George hospital in St Petersburg, killing at least five patients. Overloaded ventilators are believed to be the cause of the fire.

The ministry said at least 150 patients have been evacuated from the hospital. The hospital had recently been re-purposed to treat coronavirus patients.

The incident comes after Saturday’s fire that broke out at a Moscow hospital. The authorities said one person was killed in the inferno.
