European airlines have been advised to avoid Iranian airspace after recent revelations that the Ukrainian plane was brought down by Iranian missiles.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, Iran acknowledged that it unintentionally shot down the plane near Tehran, killing all 176 people on board.
The Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 bound for Kyiv had just taken off from the Imam Khomeini International Airport when it burst into fire and crashed.
The crash happened shortly after Iran launched missiles targeting US forces in Iraq.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had agreed with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani to conduct a joint operation to decode the black boxes of the downed plane.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has since advised all European airlines to avoid Iranian airspace until further notice.
