A 7.7 magnitude struck the Caribbean on Tuesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the International Tsunami Information Center said.
The powerful earthquake had initially been reported a 7.3 magnitude quake before being upgraded. As per the USGS report, the quake was felt in the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Cuba.
The earthquake had a shallow depth of about 6.2 miles with its epicentre between Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Serious damage was not reported in the Cayman Islands, the country’s police media relations officer said.
The International Tsunami Information Center said Tsunamis were expected along the coasts of Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cuba.
