660 Sailors Onboard a French Aircraft Carrier Test Positive for COVID-19

Charles de Gaulle was Brought Back from Deployment after Some Crew Members Tested Positive for Coronavirus

About 660 sailors on board a French aircraft carrier have tested positive for COVID-19, the country’s defence ministry announced on Wednesday.

The ministry said two-thirds of test results have been received. Thirty-one people were evacuated from the Charles de Gaulle last week and flown to a military base for treatment.

The aircraft carrier, with nearly 200o sailors, was brought back 10 days early from a deployment in the Atlantic after some crew members showed coronavirus symptoms.

Sailors from the Charles de Gaulle and one of the two frigates alongside pilots who returned aircraft to the base have all been placed in isolation for 14 days.

The ministry said there was no outbreak in the second frigate.
