At least twenty-one people died after being attacked by armed men at a village in central Mali on Friday morning.
The Malian government said the attackers burned homes and looted livestock in the village of Ogossagou in Central Mopti region.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the worst civilian massacre in recent years. In March last year, armed men killed more than 150 civilians in the same village.
The attack happened less than 24 hours after Malian security forces stationed at the village left their base.
The defense ministry has deployed soldiers to respond to the attack.
