At least seventeen people died after a gas pipeline explosion in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday.

The National Emergency Management Agency said the explosion happened after a truck crashed into a stack of gas tanks at a gas processing plant in Abule-Ado area of the country’s commercial capital.

More than 100 houses in the area caught fire. A girl’s boarding school with more than 250 students was destroyed in the inferno. The school’s headteacher was among those killed in the inferno.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation said the impact of the explosion caused several houses to collapse. Emergency responders were working to pull trapped people from the rubble.

President Muhammadu Buhari sent condolences to the families of the victims.
