One person died, and two others were injured in a shooting that happened Thursday at a senior living apartment building in downtown Vancouver, Washington, authorities said.
Police received a call about an active-shooter situation at about 2:10 p.m. PT. Vancouver police and firefighters, FBI Seattle Division, an ATF Special Agent among other authorities, responded to the scene.
According to the Vancouver Fire Department, a suspect was taken into custody after he had barricaded himself in his apartment. The suspect was identified as 80-year-old Robert E. Breck.
Firefighters said one person died in the incident. Two others were hospitalized at the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in “satisfactory condition”.
Investigators said shots were fired in the lobby. The suspect was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder charges.
Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle released a statement sympathizing with the victims and their families.
In the statement, McEnerny-Ogle said: “…. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families as they deal with this tragedy. I commend our police officers, fire and EMS personnel who quickly responded to the scene. I have the utmost confidence in our offices as they work to resolve the situation.”
