Anthony Fauci Says US Coronavirus Testing Response is ‘Failing’

A top White House coronavirus task force member, Anthony Fauci, said on Thursday that the federal government had failed in testing and detecting coronavirus. The virus has rapidly been spreading in the US.

Fauci was on Capitol Hill when he responded to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) after she cited a complaint from the National Nurses United. NNU had earlier complained that even the nurses exposed to COVID-19 had trouble getting tests.

Fauci, testifying along the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director, Robert Redfield, stated that the health authorities were working to expand the testing. He further said that the CDC would test the people reporting flu-like symptoms at hospitals in six cities.

As of Wednesday, Coronavirus cases in the US had reached 1200 with the number of deaths reaching thirty-eight.

Redfield, in his statement, testified that about 70 per cent of the new cases of coronavirus around the world were linked to Europe.

The health officials received sympathy from several lawmakers.
