George Floyd’s 6-year-old Daughter Gets Full Scholarship to Texas Southern University
Texas Southern University announced this week that George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, would be awarded a full scholarship to the school after she graduates from high school.
The historically black university in Floyd’s hometown stated that the offer was a gesture, which came Tuesday, the day of his funeral, to honor the memory of George Floyd on the day that he was laid to eternal rest.
46-year-old George Floyd lost his life on May 25 after he was pinned down by police in Minneapolis as he repeatedly pleaded “I can’t breathe.”
Floyd’s death sparked protests in the US and around the world, calling for racial justice and a stop in police brutality.
A public viewing Monday drew thousands to a Houston church, as did a celebrity-filled funeral service Tuesday.
Rapper Kanye West had also announced that he would set up a college fund for Floyd’s daughter Gianna.
