New Jersey Man Charged for Coughing on Wegmans Worker

New Jersey Gov. Philip Murphy on Tuesday chided a man who faced charges for allegedly coughing on a grocery store worker and claiming that he had contracted the new coronavirus.

Murphy stated that the man was charged with terroristic threats, harassment and obstruction, a local news source reported. The incident took place at the Wegmans grocery store chain’s location in Manalapan, about 50 miles south of New York City.

Murphy stated that the man got into an argument with a female store employee before he coughed on the woman and then told her that he had contracted the virus.

The incident came as New Jersey saw a spike in COVID-19 cases. The state had recorded a total of 3,675 confirmed cases and 44 deaths, a news source reported. ‘

Over the weekend, Murphy had ordered the residents of the state to stay at home and close down all non-essential businesses until further notice.
