Judge Temporarily Suspends Doctor’s Right to See Daughter amid Coronavirus Pandemic
A Miami emergency doctor lost custody of her 4-year-old daughter when a judge temporarily suspended her from spending time with the child because she was treating coronavirus patients.
Dr Theresa Greene, however, was appealing the emergency order that granted her ex-husband, Eric Greece, temporary full custody of their daughter.
Judge Bernard Shapiro ruled that the 4-year-old was to stay with Eric until when the pandemic was over to reduce the child’s risk of exposure.
Theresa was filing an appeal because she feared that it might take a long time for her to see her daughter again, as no one knows when the pandemic would be resolved. She said that she was careful at work by taking all the necessary measures to protect not just her daughter but also herself.
The doctor said that the judge’s order was discriminatory against divorced parents working in the frontline to fight the virus. A petition had been lodged, to allow front-liners who were solo or divorced parents to keep their children.
