A violent tornado plowed through North Dallas Sunday just before 9:00 p.m. leaving several people hurt, one building collapsed and tens of thousands of customers without lights.

At about 9:48 p.m., the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado tore through north and northeast Dallas. It also said a second severe weather system is expected overnight, and more tornadoes were possible.

The tornado touched down near Love Field Airport before moving approximately 17 miles northeast.

According to Dallas firefighters, an unspecified structure went down near the area where the tornado touched down. About seven people made it out of the structure safely, but a search and rescue team was on the scene to look for other people.

The firefighters said they received multiple calls from residents who had been hurt by broken glass.

The Dallas Independent School District said several schools acquired “significant damage” and will be closed on Monday.
