New Jersey Family Members Die, Others Hospitalized after Contracting COVID-19

A New Jersey mother and her three children, two sons and a daughter, all perished after contracting the new coronavirus at a recent family gathering. According to a local news report, three other relatives were being hospitalized in critical condition.

Vincent Fusco succumbed to the virus Thursday at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, just a day after his mother and brother perished of the illness, a cousin of the mother said. Fusco’s sister died days before.

Grace Fusco, 73, a mother of eleven children from Freehold, died of the virus Wednesday at CentraState Medical Center. Her son, Carmine Fusco, who was a New York- and New Jersey-based horse racing trainer, also died on the same day at St. Luke’s University Hospital- Bethlehem Campus in Pennsylvania. Both had tested positive for the virus.

Her daughter, Rita Fusco-Jackson, 55, succumbed on Friday at a hospital in New Jersey. She tested positive for the virus after her death, making her the second person in New Jersey to die from COVID-19.

As of Wednesday, three family members were still being hospitalized in critical condition. Nineteen other relatives of the victims were tested for the virus and were self-quarantining themselves in their homes as they waited for the test results.
