Ljubljana, DZ. Predsednik LMS Marjan Sarec.

Slovenia’s Prime Minister, Marjan Sarec, has resigned and called for an early election.

Sarec sent his resignation to parliament on Monday morning, saying his minority government could not push through important legislation.

The coalition, which consists of five center-left parties, holds only 43 out of 90 seats in parliament.

Since taking power in 2018, Marjan Sarec has found it challenging to push bills through parliament.

“With this coalition, this situation in parliament, I cannot fulfill the expectations of the people,” Sarec said.
