Luis Marin Killed in Car Crash on 5 Freeway near SR 54 in National City, San Diego

National City, California (January 13, 2020) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a man who was killed in a car accident in National City, San Diego, on Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision happened on Interstate 5 Freeway near State Route 54 at about 4:52 a.m., January 11.

A black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was reportedly traveling northbound in the fast lane and was attempting to pass a red car when it crashed into a disabled car in the emergency lane.

As per the CHP report, a gray SUV also crashed into the pickup truck.

One person in the SUV was killed in the accident.

The victim has since identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office as 36-year-old Luis Felipe Marin of San Ysidro.

The pickup truck driver did not stay at the scene of the accident and is yet to be located.

No other information was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
