San Jose, California (October 31, 2019) – The 54-year-old man who died in a two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning in San Jose has been identified as Gilberto Delacruz Padilla, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident occurred at around 3:35 a.m., October 26, on Highway 101 near McKee Road
The CHP said Padilla was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on Highway 101 when, for an unknown reason, he swerved left and cut across several lanes.
The Cobalt was struck on its rear by a 1990s Mercedes SUV that was also traveling northbound on Highway 101.
The Mercedes continued and slammed into the guard rail while the Cobalt traveled across all the lanes and stalled on the shoulder of the highway.
Padilla suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
A 47-year-old man from San Jose who was driving the SUV driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The authorities temporarily closed one lane of the highway as the crews cleared the scene.
No additional information regarding the crash was provided. The crash is under investigation.
