David Ramirez Killed in Multi-Car Accident on 5 Freeway near Bay Boulevard in Chula Vista, San Diego

Chula Vista, California (February 4, 2020) – Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision that left two other people injured on Saturday morning in Chula Vista.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened on Interstate 5 Freeway between the J Street and Bay Boulevard at about 5 a.m. February 1.

A vehicle was reportedly traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided with multiple vehicles.

CHP officers who responded to the incident recovered at least seven vehicles at the scene of the accident.

Two people were killed in the accident.                                                               

The authorities have identified one of those killed as 23-year-old David Ramirez who worked as an overnight shift as a manager at Five Guys in Hillcrest and an Army veteran.

Two other people were injured in the accident and were taken to UCSD Medical Center for treatment.

Both directions of the 5 Freeway were closed as the authorities examined the scene.

No other information was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
