Jose Cruz Jr. Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 101 in Nipomo

Nipomo, California – Jose Cruz Jr., 44, from San Jose, was identified as one of three people who were injured in a Highway 101 crash in Nipomo Saturday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevy Tahoe and a Honda CR-V collided at around 11 p.m, March 27, near the Tefft Street off-ramp.

Ernesto Nava Herrera, 24, of Santa Maria, was driving the Tahoe heading south in the northbound lanes when he collided head-on with the CR-V driven by Cruz, CHP said.

Due to the impact of the crash, the CR-V overturned and came to a rest in the southbound freeway median while the Tahoe ended up in the northbound median.

A passenger in the CR-V was ejected and critically injured. He was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Cruz and another passenger sustained major injuries and were also taken to Marian.

Herrera fled the scene on foot but was shortly located and arrested before being taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

CHP said Herrera was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI, and hit-and-run.

A section of the highway was expected to be closed for the investigation and clean-up.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

“Usually, clients hire me immediately after their first consultation because they quickly figure out that I will treat them like family. I lift a weight off their shoulders immediately. That is my job. We simply leave no stone unturned – period. We go after everyone and everything. There is no other way to ensure justice,” Mr. Khodaverdian states.

While Mr. Khodaverdian does not represent any of the parties involved in this incident, he has recovered over $100 million for thousands of injury victims and their families. “In one case, we were able to recover a 7-figure settlement within 11 business days of being hired by the family of a victim killed by a negligent driver. We have numerous other 6-figure settlements within 30 days. While these results are atypical and do not predict future outcomes, justice in these cases helped bring about closure and a swift sense of justice for the families.”
