12 Injured in Holtville Fatal Truck Accident on Highway 115 Identified

Holtville, California – The identities of the people injured in a crash that left fifteen people dead in Holtville at around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday morning have been released.
The crash occurred on Highway 115 and Norrish Road when a maroon Ford Expedition carrying 25 people was traveling west on Norrish Road. The Ford entered into the path of a big rig truck carrying gravel northbound on Highway 115 and the two collided.
15 people in the Ford were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The injured parties were taken to various hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Rene Zelando, 30, of Nayarit, Mexico, Berti Orozco, 21, of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Zeterina Mendoza, 33, of Guerrero, Mexico, Camilio Rodriguez, 44, of Santa Maria Del Oro, Mexico, suffered major injuries and were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, San Diego.
Jose Martinez, 16, of Guerrero, Mexico and Berlin Cardona, 46, of Guatemala City, Guatemala also sustained major injuries and were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego.
Darlin Liliana Robledo, 20, of Tapachula, Mexico had moderate Injuries and was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center, El Centro.
Avelardo Nava, 18, of Guerrero, Mexico and Manuel Rufino, 39, of Oaxaca, Mexico, were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, Brawley with moderate injuries.
Jorge Gutierrez Martinez, 24, and Esteban Montiel, 22, suffered major injuries and were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs. Another 15-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital with major injuries.
The operator of the big rig was not identified but also suffered major injuries.
The authorities are investigating the incident as a human smuggling case.
