Rolando Pinto-Mendez Dies in Pomona Car Accident at San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street

Pomona, California – Rolando Pinto-Mendez, 26, was killed in a crash that was preceded by a police pursuit in the area of San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street in Pomona Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pomona Police Department.

Just before 4 p.m. February 3, police said a driver that refused to stop for the authorities fled, prompting the officers to pursue them.

Shortly after, the suspect collided with a gray Honda Civic at the intersection.

Pinto-Mendez was the driver of the Honda and was trapped in the wreckage..

Firefighters who responded to the accident extricated Pinto-Mendez from the vehicle but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The suspect reportedly fled on foot but was found hiding in the bushes of a home and was arrested a short time later.

Authorities identified the suspect as Eli Richard Lopez, 22. He was arrested and booked for murder, hit-and-run, evading a police officer, and grand theft auto.

The incident is under investigation.
