Thomas Smith Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo, California- Thomas Vernon Smith, 67, of Guadalupe, was killed in a two-vehicle accident that happened on Friday night, January 29 on Highway 101 just north of Highway 154 in San Luis Obispo.

At around 7 p.m., Smith was driving a 2009 Hyundai northbound on Highway 101 when he collided with a 2013 Lexus driven by a 38-year-old Lily Aliza Renn of Oakland.

The California Highway Patrol said Smith was trying to pass the Lexus when both vehicles sideswiped each other.

Smith lost control of his vehicle due to the impact of the collision and traveled up a steep embankment along the center divider before it overturned.

Paramedics responded to the crash and performed life-saving to Smith, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Renn was taken to a Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital for moderate injuries treatment.

More details about the collision were not provided.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
