Velma Soto Injured in Deadly Pomona Traffic Collision on San Bernardino (10) Freeway

Pomona, California – Velma Soto, 39, of South Gate was seriously injured in a deadly Pomona hit-and-run crash that took place on San Bernardino (10) Freeway at Corona (71) Freeway Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At around 12:16 a.m., authorities were called to the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles.
Investigators said a 2018 Honda Accord was disabled in the No. 4 lane of westbound 10 Freeway when it was rear-ended by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.
The Honda was pushed forward into three pedestrians believed to have been the occupants of the vehicle and were standing outside.
Shortly after, the Chevrolet was hit by a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze traveling westbound.
One of the victims, a 41-year-old South Gate man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other pedestrians, Soto and Luis Miranda, 20, of South Gate, were both taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver of the Cruze, Christaphore Ruffin, 32, of Barstow, was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver of the Malibu fled the scene after the crash.
The westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway were closed as investigators worked at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
