One Dies in Merced County Collision near Sandy Mush Road and Highway 59

Merced County, California – One person died following a Merced County crash that happened near Sandy Mush Road and Highway 59 on Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At around 6:36 p.m. December 12, CHP said a 2000 Chevy Blazer was traveling east on Sandy Mush Road when the driver failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling south on Highway 59.

The impact of the crash caused the Chevy to catch fire.

The driver of the Chevy, a 58-year-old man, was killed in the crash. His identity was not immediately released.

The driver of the Ford, a 40-year-old man, was taken to a Modesto hospital with minor-to-moderate injuries.

A passenger in the Ford, a 37-year-old woman, sustained minor-to-moderate injuries. Two other passengers, a 15 and a 13-year-old, were both transported to a Modesto hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
