Charles Hatherill Injured in Highway 101 Crash near Indianola Cutoff Road in Humboldt County

Humboldt, California – Charles Hatherill Jr., 46, of Eureka, was injured in Highway 101 crash near Indianola Cutoff Road in Humboldt County on Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Hatherill was working in the southbound No.2 lane of Highway 101 while at the same time Paul Giacomini, 65, of Fortuna, was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup southbound on No.1 lane.

For unknown reasons, Hatherill stepped out from between contraction trucks parked within No. 2 lane into the path of the Dodge and was hit, CHP said.

Police said Giacomini was able to slow his car, but the truck’s front struck Hatherill, throwing him to the ground.

The incident happened at around 5:40 a.m. on October 7.

Hatherill suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Giacomini was not hurt, and the pickup was not damaged.

No more details about the accident were available.

CHP is investigating the accident.
