Maria Munoz Killed in San Bernardino Collision on Mountain View Avenue and Magnolia Avenue

San Bernardino, California – Maria Munoz, 62, was killed in a traffic collision that happened in the area of Mountain View Avenue and Magnolia Avenue in San Bernardino Wednesday evening.

A driver was arrested following the collision, which occurred at around 6:16 p.m. September 23.

According to San Bernardino police, Alexis Navarette, 23, of San Bernardino, was driving a Lexus ES350 southbound on Mountain View at a high rate of speed when he collided with a 72-year-old woman in a Toyota Camry. The Camry was traveling northbound on Mountain View Avenue and trying to turn onto westbound Magnolia when it was hit by the Lexus.

Munoz was a passenger in the Camry. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Navarette, his passenger, and the other two occupants of the Camry sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said speed and drugs were suspected in the accident. Navarette was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury, hit-and-run with injury, and child endangerment.

Police are investigating the incident.
