Man Killed after Vehicles Collide at Brand Boulevard and Maple Street in Glendale

Glendale, California – A man in his 60s was killed in a pedestrian accident at Brand Boulevard and Maple Street in Glendale that happened on Thursday night.

The Glendale Police Department said the incident involved an impaired driver and another fast-traveling vehicle.

Reportedly, 32-year-old Akop Daniyelyan of Los Angele was driving at high speed and was attempting to pass a slow-moving vehicle in front of him.

He then drifted to the opposite traffic and collided with another speeding vehicle driven by Alejandro Garcia, 27, from Los Angeles. Garcia’s car was reportedly driving side by side with Daniyelyan’s car at the time they collided.

Following the impact of the collision, both vehicles lost control, struck a parked truck and a tree before hitting a male pedestrian.

Police said the collision happened at around 8 p.m. on September 17.

The victim, described as a man in his 60s, suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His name and residence were not disclosed.

Authorities said both drivers got out of their cars and started arguing, and Daniyelyan ended up punching Garcia in the face.

Police said Daniyelyan was arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and reckless driving causing bodily injury.

Garcia was also arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving, causing bodily injury but was released on a $50,000 bond.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
