Driver, Deputy Injured in Sacramento Car Crash Involving Patrol Unit

Sacramento, California – Two people, among them a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy, were hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision near Howe Avenue and Alta Arden Expressway early Tuesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deputy was northbound on Howe responding to a chase with lights and siren on when he collided with a Honda Fit heading westbound.

The crash happened at around 12:30 a.m. on September 1.

The Honda driver was ejected from his vehicle and thrown in a nearby parking lot. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A Kaiser Permanente emergency room doctor who was traveling home from work stopped by and helped both drivers, CHP said.

The driver of the Honda suffered severe injuries while the deputy sustained a cut to his head and other minor injuries.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital and reported to be in stable condition.

More details regarding the accident were not provided. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
