Man Injured in Interstate 8 Traffic Collision in El Cajon

El Cajon, California – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 8 that happened on Tuesday morning, leaving one person with minor injuries.

The crash involved a Hino tow truck, a Mazda 6 sedan, a Lexus RX 350 SUV, and Ford Explorer.

According to CHP officials, the tow truck, driven by a 47-year-old Chula Vista man, was traveling westbound and slammed into the back of the Mazda when traffic slowed down.

Following the impact of the crash, the Mazda was pushed into the back of the SUV and also sideswiped a marked El Cajon Police Department Ford Explorer.

The collision occurred at around 7:55 a.m. just west of Mollison Avenue.

The Mazda driver, a 55-year-old El Cajon man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The ECPD officer, a 1 1/2 -year veteran of the department, the tow truck driver, and the Lexus motorist, a 78-year-old El Cajon man, were not hurt in the crash.

The collision led to the closure of the right two lanes of I-8 for about 45 minutes.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
