Lamont, California – The boy who died following an alleged DUI pedestrian crash in Arvin last Saturday afternoon has been identified as Alexander Arvizu, according to the coroner’s office.

Authorities arrested Jose Arvizu Malagon, 31, as they believe he was under the influence when his vehicle struck and killed two-year-old Arvizu of Arvin.

At around 4:12 p.m. August 1, authorities said Arvizu was run over by the vehicle in the driveway of a residence located near Edison Road and Sunset Boulevard.

Malagon, who was driving a 2019 Chevy Traverse, was apparently heading to check on his goats when he struck the boy in the driveway.

Arvizu was rushed to Kern Medical, where he was pronounced deceased.

Malagon was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

The crash is currently under investigation.
