William Montgomery Killed in Humboldt Collision on SR 255 near Samoa Bridge

Humboldt County, California – William Bryant Montgomery, 52, of Eureka was among two people who died following a Humboldt County Collision that happened on SR 255 early Wednesday morning, according to CHP.

The wreck happened near the Samoa Bridge at around 2:30 a.m. August 5.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling northbound on SR-255 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into the water on the east side of the bridge.

The vehicle became submerged after the crash.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and they located two men inside the submerged vehicle. The emergency crews performed CPR on the victims. 

The two were then taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Both parties were pronounced deceased following the accident.  

Montgomery has been identified as the driver. His passenger was identified as James Rowland, 42, of Arcata.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation by CHP.
