Newspaper Editor Eugene Harbrecht Killed in Santa Ana Accident on Bristol Street and Santa Clara
Santa Ana, California – Authorities are investigating a deadly accident that left Eugene Harbrecht dead on Thursday morning in Santa Ana.
Harbrecht, 67, of Santa Ana, a newspaper editor at Orange County Register, was killed in the accident that occurred just before 11:45 a.m. July 30, on Bristol Street and Santa Clara.
Authorities said a BMW and a black Infiniti were racing northbound on Bristol Street when the BMW crashed into a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was making a left turn from Santa Clara onto southbound Bristol.
The impact pushed the pickup into a wall and it caught fire.
Two witnesses helped pull out the driver of the pickup, later identified as Harbrecht. He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The operator of the BMW was hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Infiniti was later located and taken into custody by the authorities.
The crash is under investigation.
