Sara Youhas Killed in Santa Cruz Pedestrian Crash on Bear Creek Road
Santa Cruz, California – 31-year-old Cody McGhee, of Boulder Creek, has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run collision that happened on Tuesday evening, July 14, in Boulder Creek.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash scene on Bear Creek Road, just east of View Drive.
McGhee was driving a 1999 Mercedes C230 when he allowed his vehicle to veer off the road and continued to travel eastbound on the south shoulder of Bear Creek Road when he hit Sara Youhas, 73, of Boulder Creek.
Youhas was taking her daily walk when she was hit and thrown down the embankment, where she succumbed to her injuries. Her body was found two days later after the incident.
McGhee drove away without rendering any help to the victim. He was arrested in San Jose on Tuesday morning, July 28.
McGhee is likely to face charges on fatal hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, probation violations, and fleeing the scene of a crime without malice aforethought.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
