Rachel Bookout Arrested after Fatal Riverside Pedestrian Crash at Galleria Tyler Shopping Mall
Riverside, California – Police have arrested a driver months after a crash that left a pedestrian dead at Galleria Tyler Shopping Mall in Riverside.
The victim was identified as Diana De La Luz.
Police said the accident happened at around 1:11 p.m. October 30.
A 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup was heading north on the driveway of the Nordstrom store when it hit La Luz. The pedestrian was trying to cross the street in a marked crosswalk.
De La Luz later succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident..
The involved driver was identified as Rachel Bookout, 25, of Riverside. She stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
Police on Thursday, July 16, arrested Bookout and booked her into the Robert Presley Detention Center. She was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving with willful and wanton disregard of public safety causing great bodily injury.
Her bail was set at $5,000 bail. The investigation is ongoing.
