Tahara Day Dies in East Oakland Collision on Foothill Boulevard
Oakland, California – A deadly cash between a vehicle and a big rig occurred late Monday at Foothill Boulevard and 68th Avenue in East Oakland, authorities said.
A woman died and three other people were injured in the crash. The woman has been identified as Tahara Day, 31, of San Leandro.
At about 11:30 p.m. July 13, a Mercedes was heading west on Foothill Boulevard when it collided with a semi-truck that was southbound on 68th Avenue.
The crash caused the truck to catch fire and it spread to a nearby building. Firefighters who responded to the incident managed to contain the fire.
Day was a passenger in the Mercedes and was pronounced deceased at the site of the crash. The driver was identified as a 33-year-old Hayward man. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
A 14-year-old girl was also a passenger in the Mercedes and was hospitalized in stable condition.
The operator of the semi-truck, a 37-year-old Visalia man, sustained severe burns and was taken to a hospital.
Authorities said alcohol and speed may have played a role in the crash.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
