Christopher Joas Killed in South Lake Tahoe Plane Crash in Meyers
South Lake Tahoe, California – The Pilot who died in a plane crash that occurred in Meyers near South Lake Tahoe Airport last Tuesday afternoon was a surgeon at Naval Air Station Fallon, the authorities said in a report.
Christopher Joas, 53, died following the incident that occurred at around 3:30 p.m. July 7.
Deputies said a single-engine plane slammed into a wooded area near Rainbow Road and Highway 89.
The plane was a Cessna 172 which crashed nearly two miles southwest of the South Tahoe airport for undetermined reasons.
It had just taken off from the airport. Witnesses said the plane was having trouble gaining altitude before it crashed.
Joas, who was the pilot, died in the crash.
Joas’ passenger, Margaret McGuire, 51, was flown to a Reno hospital, where she later died.
The FAA and the NTSB are investigating the wreck.
