Driver Dies in Westmont Car Crash at 106th Street and Vermont Avenue

Westmont, California – 45-year-old Charlton Caldwell, of Compton, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Saturday night in the area of 106th Street and Vermont Avenue in Westmont community, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The California Highway Patrol said the deadly crash happened at around 9:35 p.m., July 11.

Two white BMWs and a 2007 black Saab 20T were involved in the accident.

As per the report, a white 2007 BMW 328i was traveling east on 106th Street when the driver ran the red light at Vermont Avenue and collided with the other white 2007 BMW heading south on Vermont Avenue.

CHP said the front-end of the BMW heading south on Vermont Avenue crashed into the left rear of the other BMW.

Caldwell was driving his black Saab 20T southbound in the No.1 lane on Vermont Avenue. He then made a left turn to avoid the collision.

The Saab lost control and crashed into the concrete center median before leaving the roadway and striking a tree.

Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another driver, a 39-year-old man from Los Angeles, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood for treatment.

Further details regarding the crash were not provided.
