Second US Presidential Debate Moved to Florida

The Commission on Presidential Debates Announces the move from Michigan

The non-partisan commission that holds the quadrennial presidential debates said that the second of the three scheduled showdowns this fall between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden were moved from Michigan to Florida.

The Presidential Debates Commission announced Tuesday that the October 15 encounter would take place in Miami at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

Mark Schlissel, President of the University of Michigan, said in a letter shared with the commission that the decision came as his school worked to prepare their campus for the fall semester amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It was expected that the two other presidential debates – and the one vice-presidential showdown – would proceed as planned.

The first presidential debate was scheduled for September 29 at Notre Dame University in South Bend, with the final encounter on October 22 at Belmont University in Nashville.

The vice presidential debate at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City was scheduled for October 7.
