Father Depressed over the Pandemic, Decides to Kill Wife and Son

A Florida man, whose relatives reportedly suspect was depressed over the coronavirus pandemic, fatally shot his wife and 21-year-old son.

Orlando resident, Smith Rivera, 59, faced two counts of murder in the first degree and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

He confessed to a deputy in the early Sunday shooting, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the authorities.

Rivera also allegedly admitted that he gunned down his 21-year-old son, Matthew. His sister told the station that the father of three had been depressed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Rivera allegedly also fired shots at a second son, but he managed to escape unharmed from the family home.
