Police Officers Shoot, Kill DUI Suspect in Atlanta Fast Food Parking Lot

A man who resisted being taken into custody by Atlanta police officers after failing a field sobriety test was shot and killed, Georgia authorities said.

The incident occurred at a Wendy’s restaurant late Friday.

Several videos posted to social media sites showed a small crowd gathered at the scene and protesting the police shooting.

Officers were responding to a complaint of a man in a vehicle parked in the drive-thru who was asleep, causing customers to drive around the vehicle.

Police officers tried to place the man into custody when he failed a field sobriety test. However, he resisted, and a struggle ensued, making an officer use a Taser.

According to officials, the man grabbed the Taser away from the officer. An officer then shot the man during the struggle over the Taser.

The man, who was identified as 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks of Atlanta, was taken to a local hospital where he died after surgery.

One officer was treated for an injury and discharged from the hospital.

An investigation into the incident was underway.
