South Philadelphia Gun Owner Shoots, Kills Looter

Man Shot, Killed during South Philadelphia Gun Store Burglary Attempt

A man was fatally shot early Tuesday by the owner of a gun shop during a burglary attempt in South Philadelphia.

The incident took place at about 4:11 a.m. on the 1500 block of Front Street in the Pennsport section of the city.

According to the officials, the owner of the gun store, Firing Line Inc., was inside his business guarding it because they had experienced a break-in attempt Sunday evening.

When a crew of looters allegedly tried to break in, the owner of the store saw them on surveillance video and then heard them coming up the steps of the store.

The store’s owner fired his weapon on one of the perpetrators after he broke into the property and pointed a gun at him.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene while at least two or three other individuals involved in the attempted looting fled.

Police officers said another man was at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and they believed that he was likely a member of the same group of looters.

An investigation into the incident remained underway.
