A civilian airplane is reported to have been by rockets on Saturday at Mitiga International Airport in Libya’s capital, Tripoli.
According to local news reports, the attack was carried out by forces loyal to Libyan renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.
Haftar’s eastern-based forces have been trying to seize Tripoli since April last year. The airport has repeatedly been attacked by Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA).
The attack came days after at least five civilians were killed in shelling believed to have been carried out by the LNA and followed the launch of an operation by the country’s internationally-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) to seize the key al-Watiya airbase, southwest of Tripoli, from Haftar’s forces.
