Coronavirus Kills Nearly 70 People at Veterans’ Home in Massachusetts

Nearly 70 people who had contracted coronavirus died at a home for aging veterans in Massachusetts.

State and federal officials tried to figure out what caused such a deadly outbreak at a long-term care facility in the US.

The death toll at the state-run Holyoke Soldiers’ Home continued rising, and officials were investigating if residents were not being given proper medical care. Massachusetts’ top prosecutor was deciding whether to take legal action on the matter.

Officials stated Tuesday that sixty-eight veteran residents who had tested positive for the virus died. It was not known whether another person who died had the virus.

Apart from those who had succumbed to COVID-19, the other 82 residents and 81 employees had tested positive.

There had not yet been an official count of nursing home deaths across the country, but the federal government was planning to start collecting numbers of confirmed and presumed deaths and infections.
