Obama Endorses Joe Biden for President in Attempt to Unite Democratic Party
Former President Barack Obama in a video message posted to his social media accounts Tuesday endorsing his former vice president Joe Biden for president.
The endorsement came as Biden had looked up for the Democratic presidential nomination after Sen. Bernie Sanders withdrew from the race the previous week. Sanders endorsed Biden on Monday.
After Sanders exited the race, President Trump tried showing discord by questioning why Obama had not yet endorsed Biden.
Though Obama had long talked of his affinity for Biden, he maintained that he would not endorse in the Democratic primary until when an apparent nominee emerged.
Biden frequently tied himself to Obama in his campaigns, and he maintained high support among African American voters, who propelled him to victory in notable primary states like South Carolina.
