Missing Mexican Journalist Found Murdered

More Than 100 Journalists Have Been Killed in The Country Since 2000


A Mexican journalist who was reported missing a week ago has been found dead in the southern state of Guerrero. Victor Fernando Alvarez, who disappeared on April 2, becomes the second journalist to be murdered in the country this year.

The remains of Fernando Alvarez were discovered in the seaside resort of Acapulco.

The Guerrero human rights commission has since called on authorities to probe Alvarez’s murder and to bring those responsible to justice. Reporter Maria Elena Ferral was shot dead by two assailants on motorbikes last month while she was getting into her car in the eastern state of Veracruz.

According to the Reporters Without Borders NGO, more than 100 reporters have been killed in the country since 2000, 10 of who were killed in 2019.
